Where do you go for help when conventional mental health treatments fail?
Hi, I’m Emily, and that’s the question I asked myself several years ago.
I experienced depression and anxiety from a young age. Like many, I sought help from doctors, therapists, and other mental health professionals. I believed in conventional mental health treatment so much that eventually I pursued two degrees in Social Work and spent over a decade working with others. When it came to mental health treatment I believed I had the answers – or at least knew where to find them.
This all changed when after the birth of my son, I experienced a mental health crisis so severe I believed I might die. I’d struggled throughout my life, but nothing could have prepared me for the severity of symptoms I experienced postpartum. I sought help from the same sources as before. Nothing helped. That’s when I started to realize the limits of conventional mental health treatment.
Then one night, in desperation, I thought, “there has to be another way…”
I was sick and over-medicated, yet determined to find something that might help me. Abandoning my conventional training, I dove into the world of holistic mental health and began healing in ways I never knew were possible.
Since then, I’ve devoted my life to learning about the real causes of mental health symptoms and holistic ways to help people heal.
